I love curry puffs. From the simple deep fried ones that are sold by the mak cik (Malay : Auntie) in the Nasi Lemak stalls, filled with just only potato; to the ones which are made with puff pastry sold in the bakery; or even the chunky ones sold by the Chinese men which is filled with chicken, potato and a quarter of a half boiled egg. Be it for breakfast, or tea, a good curry puff is always satisfying.

I have curry puffs at least once a week. If they are small, I can chomp up 3 of them in one go. If they are those chunky ones, just one will make me fill with so much guilt, I’ll swear I won’t have another one in years to come (but come the following week, whatever I swear is all forgotten).

I think that’s why my cholesterol level is high.

My eldest daughter reminded me a couple of times, I have not made her cheese puffs for a long time, and she really really really wanted to have some. My youngest one said she didn’t like cheese puffs and requested some sugar puffs.

During the weekend, I bought some Pampas Puff Pastry, and I thought I’ll make everybody happy.

For cheese puff, I just sliced up parmesan cheese and sandwiched the cheese between puff pastry sheets. And for sugar puff, I just fill the puff pastry up with brown sugar.

And what did we adults get? Curry Puffs!

I had a pack of curry paste in my pantry. So I just cut some potato in cubes, fried them until they are soft, and then stirred in the curry paste and fried until it’s fragrant. And I got my curry potato filling.

Girls were happy to have their cheese puffs and sugar puffs respectively. Hubs too rather like the curry puff I made. The taste was ok, but there’s no ‘umph’! I know what’s missing. I’ll add curry leaves, sliced onions the next time and maybe also some chicken.
